Thursday 2/7

It was warmer on Wednesday morning and nice light for photos.
Looking towards Boones Mill.
Some wild ducks, a few seconds later they saw me and took off like crazy birds.
A hen in the warm sun.
Here is a photo from Wednesday, it was almost too warm to cut wood but it felt good to be out without a jacket on. Cut up a wild cherry that was a blow down. Got a few pieces of Tree of Heaven as well.
It was cloudy and cold this morning and looked like rain, it felt like rain and it eventually did late in the afternoon. Today I worked on a group of trees that had fallen last summer. Most are huge poplar with some black walnut mixed in. I should get a couple more loads from this spot.
The wall of wood is being rebuilt from west to east, I have quite a gap to fill and if things go as they did in the last two years, I will burn at least 70 more wheelbarrow loads before warm weather. I have several trees that are on the other side of the creek that will get stacked there so I should have plenty when I get the gap filled.
It is rainy and cold tonight and they say it may change to snow later.
I went out to Callaway and put one of the saws in the shop this afternoon as it wasn't getting up to full power. I also bought a 30 inch buck saw blade so that I can make a large buck saw for more efficient had sawing.

    1. I think it would make a pretty good painting, lots of contrast.

  2. I agree...the hen in the sun looks lovely. And I've never heard of tree of heaven before. Is that a type of tree or a part of a tree?

    1. That tree is from china and is very invasive and got a start here about 200 years ago. There is a book called "a tree grows in brooklyn" and that was the type of tree in the book. You can cut them down and they come back up like the people in the story. Anyway the locals call them tree of paradise but they are wrong as that is a tropical tree. They call it a trash tree but it is a renewable fuel source for me, it does smell bad when you crush the leaves though.

    1. I am used to the cutting and splitting after doing it for several years so it doesn't bother me much anymore. I have learned to avoid problem trees which wear you out.
