Yesterday was a pleasant weather day so I worked outside. My one person crosscut saw was out of commission with a broken helper handle and the main wooden handle split in half. I got junk out of the junk pile and made a new helper handle from an old trowel handle. The main handle was made from what looked like the handle off of a metal watering can. I will give it a sharpening and see if the whole thing holds together. When I run across the proper handles I will swap them out.
This is one of those saws where the helper handle can be moved to the end and a second person can pull. It is a good saw and does well on limbs about 6 inches across but will do large stuff. It is a plan "B" in case the chain saws won't work or I just need exercise.
I almost forgot, I took a photo of my plate at the bunny hunter's lunch the other day. Biscuit and gravey, fried potatoes and onions, apples and green beans with pork that the guy raised and of course bunny. Very good, I found that I have a lot more to learn about cooking after eating with these guys.
Aggy can't resist a mud puddle.
Blazer the barn cat was taking it easy in the afternoon sun yesterday so I took a black and white of her. It was windy and cold this afternoon but felt like spring yesterday.
Yesterday morning started off strange, there was a rainbow just after sunrise when we went to the bus.
Kind of gloomy this morning, like an early van gogh, just need someone digging potatoes in the field to make it complete.
I got my work done early this morning and went to town to get a new file to work on saws with. The hardware didn't have any but I bought their last sharpening stone for scythes and was glad to get it as they are hard to find.
I went to lowes and had to buy a Chinese file, damn!
Our renter has moved out and I got a neat large buck saw out of his scrap metal pile and I am trying to bring it back to a usable condition.
The whole thing got sanded and steel wooled then each point was sharpened. The drags (double pointed things) keep the groove clean and have to be slightly shorter than the points. Finally each of the points is slightly bent (set) out to the side so that the groove will be wider than the saw and it won't bind while you try to cut. I finally got all of this done in the cold wind this afternoon. I will test it tomorrow. Yes I know that I have a chain saw but this is another plan B or is it plan C, I will have to think about it.
Your lunch looked really good.
ReplyDeleteI love the black and white pic of the cat in the chair.
I thought about painting the chairs but they do make good photos and the cats don't care what color they are. Neither do I.
DeleteThe picture of the cat is really great! You are making me want rabbit!
ReplyDeleteIf you like southern fried chicken, you will like rabbit.
