Monday 2/11

On Friday we got a little bit of snow, enough to delay school and mess up any wood cutting that I was going to do.
Dusty was not amused at the whole situation.
The sun came out but it got windy and cold in the afternoon.
On Saturday I brought over more manure and the birds went to work on it.
I started working on restoring 2 push plows, one was my grandfather's and the other was Debbie's grandfathers. Probably about 100 years old, I was surprised at how many bolts still worked. I need to make handles and I am thinking of putting a hook on the front to use as a training tool for Dusty to work with.
Sunday started off in the teens and warmed up pretty nice as the day went on. Too muddy to cut wood so I worked on stuff around the house.
Monday was a cloudy morning but above freezing so after the animals were taken care of, I went to town to do some stuff as it is too muddy for much else.
This hen had things to do and places to go in the garden this morning. It was a black and white morning so I set the camera and took B&W.

  1. I didn't realize you used Dusty to plow. That's neat!

  2. Well I don't yet, that was the idea to get him. The guy I got him from was supposed to help me with him but I haven't seen him since so I am on my own. I have all the equipment, just need help with the horse as I don't have a lot of horse experience. He is trained to pull wagons but not a plow, he is plenty strong and is getting too fat for his harness. I think he can do it though.

  4. Good job on putting the chickens to work!!! I love it! Also totally love your push plows!!! I was five minutes late to buy one at an estate sale last year, they are so neat! My husband thinks I'm crazy for wanting one, but what if one day you can't get gas for the tiller or tractor, hmmm then you would be loving a push plow!

    1. I used to use them mainly for laying off long rows but I think with some different attachments, they will be good for weeding. The tiller isn't hard to use but I just don't like running it for hours and breathing in the fumes.
