Friday 2/15

Yesterday I saw a new house being assembled as I was going up the hill. It is over on Dugwell road. At least someone has money in the area, well maybe it is just debt. Anyway it was interesting to see them put the pieces together and today it looks like a house though I don't have a photo of that yet.
Spent the morning in Roanoke after baking the Valentine cake for the girls. I went to northwest hardware to get a saw bar and blade but they didn't have my size so I got a stihl from them. It is US made and the guy gave me the aggressive chain which should cut as good as the Oregon. Stopped at the rescue mission and got $2 worth of ten cent albums, most are old ones from the 70s that ironically I can finally afford when I don't have much money. I will transfer them to digital some day.
Went up on the hill after lunch and worked on the barbed wire fence so I can take the electric down where the calves are. Took some photos from up there.
Looking down on the house, it looks larger from here but once inside it isn't.
When Carrie got home, Aggy got a much needed bath, the stuff she has rolled in is now gone, she seemed disgusted as she has worked so hard to smell bad and it is all for nothing now.
It was 23 and frosty this morning, took this photo coming back from the bus, a couple pieces of cherry put out all this smoke for some reason, it really smells good.
I moved Dusty and saw a bunny come tearing through the barn yard and then Aggy showed up. She was not hot on the trail and the bunny went out of sight behind some pallets at the stable. I don't think Aggy would make a good rabbit hound. She can smell them but doesn't run after the smell.
I got the fence patched yesterday and this morning, the boys were up in the briers and honeysuckle, they didn't even come down to be fed, happy steers.
Dusty has eaten the grass down to the dirt, he is probably munching on the frost.
I got this photo of the barn when I let the chickens out, it was cold and almost foggy from the frost evaporating.
Went to town as Carrie is having girls over for a sleepover tonight and we needed hotdog buns and fries. I also got some reduced valentine candy for them which should keep them happy for awhile.
Going to try and can some of the apples that I got the other day so I picked up some sugar for that. I don't think I have ever canned anything in February before.

    1. Some days I work harder than others, when it is real cold or raining, I don't get a lot done.

  3. Beautiful pictures as usual!!!! The girls will love the candy! My 12 yr. old ate nothing but candy yesterday! I wonder why dogs like to stink? My little dog always finds the smelliest, nastiest, funkiest stuff to roll in. It's gross :P

    1. So far Aggy has kept clean which was good as the girls slept on the floor in sleeping bags and she joined them.

    1. It was built after 1790 or so and has been added on to 3 times since the original log structure. The second addition was not done by master carpenters and leaves a lot to be desired, the log part is solid though.

  5. You do have a beautiful place. I'm definitely a country girl and appreciate the beauty of it. Will you have any baby calves?

    1. No we just have steers, I do paintings and painted a dairy cow and traded it to the farmer for a couple bull calves. These are from the last registered Guernsey herd in Virginia.
