Friday 2/1

Just a dusting of snow overnight but that was enough to close school, not sure why. It was 24 with a cold wind blowing at sunrise. This was looking east before the sun came up, just a small cloud being blown quickly away, probably made it to the ocean in half an hour. Not pleasant to be out so it was just as well to not be at a bus stop.
I put dusty out to pasture and back over the frozen road to feed the calves and let the chickens out. Not as good of light today and no fooling around in the wind. I had an old russian army hat on and a firefighter coat on, glad nobody took my photo.
Got back inside and made the chocolate on chocolate cake that Debbie wanted for her birthday. When it came out of the oven, I put in a good sized boston butt which after cooking all day, will become my version of barbecue. We went over to Hema's for her birthday lunch and now at the library. Nice day to be inside for sure.

  1. Oooh, that cake looks wonderful! The snow wasn't bad our way either - just a dusting. My twins do preschool in Roanoke, so they still went to school for the morning. Just had Pierce home for the day.

  2. Your cake looks yummy! When I have to be out in cold weather I tend to look like a homeless person with my mismatched everything and wore out clothes LOL!!!!

    1. I had to laugh as one cold day, I was in roanoke taking photos of a fire near the tracks and the police thought I was one of the homeless people who might have started the fire. Lucky I had my camera, they believed that I was just a strange artist when I showed it to them. Sometimes I forget to put my good clothes on and hop in the car, duh.

  4. that cake looks so good...what time shall i be over? ;) our schools were closed to. first they called this morning to tell us we were on a 2 hour delay then called back about an hour late to tell us we were closed! i ended up having to drive my husband into roanoke this morning because he had left his vehicle there so i dropped him off at it so he could head to work. some of the back roads were pretty icy and this was at about 8:30 so i guess that is why since elementary buses would have been out by then.
my oldest daughter and her boyfriend are getting ready to take the twins to roanoke to the circus. i'm kind of nervous about it, but they'll be ok right?! :)
    have a good weekend!

    1. You are too late, we have eaten all but one slice and that may be gone by now.
Sounds like you guys had worse conditions than we did. It was 10 degrees F here this morning, I am really ready for spring now.
